Geopolitics of the EU

Learn about Global Aspirations, Dividing Lines and Economic Differences in the geopolitics of the European Union!

Maastricht University (Campus Brussels) and GeoMeans organise the Autumn School 'Geopolitics of the EU: Global Aspirations, Dividing Lines and Economic Differences'.

This Autumn School seeks to help professionals with managing the abundance of facts and views on national, EU-wide and international issues.

Trainer Leonhardt van Efferink offers a view on the world and its countries through the eyes of four global players: politicians, companies, banks, and media.

This Autumn School on Geopolitics of the EU consists of five elements that are based on first-hand working/research experience of Trainer Leonhardt van Efferink.

He seeks to make the Autumn School a two-way process by engaging all participants.

To do so, Leonhardt has developed a moderating style that creates an atmosphere of "constructive disagreement".

This allows for a continued dialogue with and among the participants.

The advantage is that students can also learn from each other, instead of getting stuck in ‘right-wrong debates’.

During the Autumn School sessions, Leonhardt introduces the key themes and the assignment.

Participants then have to work on the assignment in groups, before presenting and discussing the results of their collective efforts.

Five Elements of GeopoliticsThe five elements of the Autumn School 'Geopolitics of the EU: Global Aspirations, Dividing Lines and Economic Differences' are:Understanding Geopolitics and the European UnionInterpreting Conflicting Views on the EU and the North-South / East-West divideDeveloping Scenarios for the EU as a Global PowerAssessing the Country Risk of Greece, Belgium and GermanyDeveloping Scenarios for Resource Scarcity and Energy SecurityAbout Leonhardt van EfferinkLeonhardt van Efferink (GeoMeans) worked for more than 10 years as (Senior) Country Risk Analyst.
